Sabalito (Tierras Morenas) this is the closest Village.
Sabalito village belongs to the district of Tierras Morenas,Tilarán canton in Guanacaste province. Sabalito is one of the villages/localities within Tierras Morenas. The area sits at some elevation (“western brow of the windmill-bedecked hills, looking down on the coastal lowlands”) and is described as being accessible by a paved road from the western end of Lake Arenal.
The area is quite scenic: lake views, hills, forest, natural springs — lots of nature vibe. It’s somewhat rural and quiet, making it appealing for retreats, nature stays, etc. For example, there was a listing in Sabalito of a 1.5-acre nature-retreat property with jungle wall, river frontage, and views. Good for investment/real-estate: the region had various properties listed (lots, ranches, homes) with attractive vistas and nature amenities.
The city of Tilarán
Tilarán is a town and district in the canton of the same name, in the province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
The canton of Tilarán covers a larger area around the town, including multiple districts (such as Tierras Morenas, Arenal, etc.).
The town sits in the hills overlooking the west shore of Lake Arenal, which gives it a scenic vantage.
It’s got that “small town + nature + views” feel. The hills, the lake, the wind turbines in the background — quite picturesque.
Historically, the economy included farming (coffee, macadamia, peanuts), ranching, and now also tourism and renewable energy. The wind farms around the area (especially between Tilarán and Tejona) are notable — you’ll frequently see big wind turbines. Close enough to Lake Arenal and the outdoor-nature scene so it’s a good base for activities (hiking, lake sports, nature exploration) but still less packed than some of the big tourist hubs. Elevation: The town is elevated relative to the lowlands (about ~500+ m above sea level) which means milder temps than low coastal areas. Access: Major roads — e.g., National Route 142 passes through / near many key parts. Accommodation: There are several hotels, lodges, guesthouses in/around Tilarán. So if you’re visiting, it’s feasible. While Tilarán has more infrastructure than very remote villages, “more” is relative — services (internet, power, health) may still not match big cities.Weather & exposure: With lake & wind farms, some areas may be windier, which could be good or something to consider depending on views vs comfort.
